What is the distance from Quito Mariscal Sucre Airport to the centre of Quito?

Quito has one of the best preserved historic centres in South America. The distance from the airport to Plaza Grande / Plaza de la Independencia (Independence Square) in the historic centre of the city is 42 kilometres / 26.1 miles. Travel time by car is about 50 minutes. Other popular districts in Quito include La Mariscal, La Floresta, La Carolina and Bellavista.

Bus to Quito

Buses 198, 199 and 200 run every 20 minutes from Quito Mariscal Sucre Airport to the city. Bus 198 (SOTRANOR) runs to Terminal Río Coca in the middle of Quito, bus 199 (COSIBO) to Quitumbe Terminal in the south of Quito and bus 200 (OPERNORTE) to Terminal Terrestre Carcelén in the north of Quito. The airport bus station can be found by following the signs that read ‘transporte colectivo’. If you want to go to the historic centre of the city, it is best to take bus 198 to Terminal Río Coca. The price for a bus ticket is $ 2.00, which can be purchased from the bus driver. A bus journey takes about 60 minutes.

At Terminal Río Coca you can change to bus line E3 operated by Ecovía towards ‘Estación Playón de La Marín’, for this ride you will only pay $ 0.35. To reach the historic centre, get off at bus stop ‘Estación Marín Central’. From here it’s a 7-minute walk (600 metres) to Plaza Grande / Plaza de la Independencia. Aeroservicios to Quito (Parque Bicentenario)

Aeroservicios runs directly from the airport to Parque Bicentenario (Bus Service to Airport) in the north of the city, the site of the old airport. On weekdays the bus runs every 30 to 60 minutes between 04:00 hours and 20:00 hours, during the weekend and on public holidays you have a travel option every 60 minutes. You can buy tickets at the Aeroservicios information desk in the Arrivals hall of Quito Mariscal Sucre Airport, at the bus station or online through the website. From Parque Bicentenario it is possible to travel further in all directions by bus. Usually, you will pay $ 0.35 one way for local buses, such as bus line O3 to ‘Estación Marín Central’ close to the historic centre.
